Whitsunday
Greetings and Apstolic Benediction! Blessed Whitsunday to you all.
In today’s readings, we are reminded that God promised to pour out His Holy Spirit upon all flesh in the last days, which indeed He did while His disciples gathered at the Upper Room on the day Pentecost. I’m sure you all know the story, but what you may not realize are the full implications.
You see, if God poured out His Holy Spirit (as we know He did), and the promise was to pour it out on all flesh (which we know it was), then that means He dwells with in you, and always has. The problem is whether or not you recognize it.
Let me paint the picture with a movie reference.
Thr Kevin Costner movie, Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, had a scene where Robin of the Hood is fighting Little John at a stream. Little John is knocked of balance and swept down stream and panics because he cannot swim. Terrified, he agreed to yield to the much smaller and weaker opponent, in exchange for rescue. It is then that he learns all he needed to do was to stand, as the water was only as deep as his knees.
The good news of the Gospel is not that we must do anything to correct our actions to repair our relationship with the Father, but rather that God is not angry at us. All He asks is that we stand on the promises that He made, and that His Holy Spirit within us is enough to abundantly provide for all of our needs. We must only stop struggling against Him, and stand on His merit, and not our own.
Jesus said, “ This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you."
He told His disciples before His death that the
Holy Spirit abided with them at that time, but later would be in them.
Hallelujah, Christ within you, the hope (guarantor) of glory!
Be blessed in knowing the truth of the Good News; God loves you and abides in.
In the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
AMEN.
